Best Author: For whatever reason, you think this is an outstanding author. It doesn't matter when they started or how long it's been since they've written in this fandom
Best New Author: For authors who have just started, in this fandom, this year. [starting from January 01 2007]
Most Prolific Author: Do they produce fic like it's a mad compulsion? This is the category for them!
Best Beta: For that person who makes sure the characterization is right, the spelling is spot on, the story flows and the terminology/slang is perfection. Don't forget to thank them, they deserve it.

Boys Do It Better: Best Slash: Like the name says, this is for male/male fics. No girls allowed, and only two people here.
Girls Do It Better: Best Femmeslash: Like the name says, this is for female/female fics. No boys allowed, and only two people here.
Because JKR Said So: Best Canon Het: If it was either explicitly said [James/Lilly, Arthur/Molly] or heavily implied [Remus/Tonks, Hermione/Ron], and it's female/male, It goes here.
Because We Want It So: Best Fanon Het: It doesn't matter if it's never going to happen, or it's still a possibility. If [as of book 6] It hasn't happened and it's female/male] it goes here.
Because Two Isn't Enough: Best Multiple Partner: If it's three or more, it goes here. it can be m/f/m, f/m/f, m/m/m, f/f/f, m/f/Giant Squid or any such pairing.

Somtimes, you just want to feel good: Best Fluffy Fic: Bunnies hopping in fields? The guy wins the girl, and even his rival is happy for them? The sun shines and everybody lives? Yeah, sometimes we all just want it all to work out.
Bring the Funny: Best Humor!Fic: Lighten it up once in a while. Bring on the tentacles, the funky potions, and the OOC gems. Or, maybe just the funny side of everyday Hogwarts life.
It's Not All. About. Harry.: Best Minor Character-Centric: If it's about Seamus, Daphne, Susan, or Terry -- and so on -- it goes here.

Drabble: 100-300 words. Obviously complete.
One-Shot: 301 + vwords, in one chapter only. Obviously complete
Mid-Length: 2-8 chapters. Complete.
Novel-Length: 9 chapters or more. Complete
Series: Group of at least 3 stories, all connected, but able to be read independent of the others. Can be incomplete, as long as the stories that are shown are complete.
WIP: Anything 3 chapters or longer, as long as it's still in the works and not abandoned.

3 Turns Should Do It: Best Time Travel: Doesn't matter who's traveling or how far, as long as it's a main plot point, it can go here.
