1. Ariadne [owl][wiktt] Ariadne's two epic-length stories, A Walking Shadow and No Loyalty in moonlight are breathtaking in their complexity. AWS, which takes place between Years 6 and 7, deals with nothing less than the restoration of Severus Snape's soul (and the future of the wizarding world) with an intricate blend of darkness and humor. It features one of the best original characters in the fandom. And NLM is dark, darker, darkest. Yet somehow, she still brings hope to her characters. The writing is spare and exquisite, the images starkly poetic. There is no other voice like hers in the fandom.
2. atruwriter [grangerenchanted]
3. Ferporcel aka FerPotter [livejournal][owl] Ferporcel writes emotionally compelling and complex tales that grab you and won't let you go. She has remarkable range, and can captivate with a one shot and hold you on tenterhooks waiting for an update of an epic. She has created, in her Nathan, a completely believable 11-year-old boy. Not always likeable, frequently unreliable, but totally beloved by her readers. Check out her work, you will be glad that you did.
4. Fourth Rose [skyehawke] All of Fourth Rose's work is enthralling. Her characters are believable, her adherence to the world J.K.R. created is true, yet the world she creates smoothly readjusts everything to answer questions so many of us have about Harry and the wizarding world and events in the seven books. Her pacing is sure; her visuals are clear, and she expertly wring emotions out of us.
5. Frayach ni Cuill [livejournal] To say Frayach's writing has touched the hearts of many in the Harry/Draco community is likely an understatement; if tears could fall like rain on the land of fanfiction, her three stories written for the 2007 holiday season ~ The Price We Pay for Wings , The Kiss and Powerful Men ~ would have thawed the most resilient frost of the winter. Blessed with a mastery of the English language, Frayach's eye for capturing the beauty and passion of every moment – from the delicate descent of a feather to the tarnished memories of a kiss – have translated into breathtaking proses, each with distinct voice and style, that resonate with the readers for days to come; their beauty and humanity kindles hope in the darkest of hours, letting faith and love soar against the most oppressive of turbulent clouds.
6. Jamie2109 [insanejournal][livejournal] Jamie is one of those really good authors who are seriously under-appreciated. She writes captivating fiction with strong plot and ditto characterisation.

8. lilmisblack [aff.net][ff.net][granger enchanted] lilmisblack has the ability to write a story featuring characters that are not only true to the books, but also developed in such a way that you believe, without a doubt, that they should be together. Her plots and storylines are beautifully written with just the right amount of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat and awaiting more!
9. Lilyseyes [hpfandom][insanejournal] Lilyseyes can always bring a smile to your face with her wonderfully written, fluffy, version of the events after the war. The relationship between Severus and Harry is just so sweet and the children are always a delight.
10. littlebeloved [ashwinder][ff.net][mugglenet][owl][the petulant poetess] Littlebeloved's true brilliance lies in her characterization. She takes canon characters and places them in situations that stress them and make them grow, yet they are recognizably themselves. Denial is a Marriage Law story. Every author writes one. Few do them so very well that the plot device seems fresh and new. With every chapter, though, these characters live out their lives and dreams, in spite of the law. She is a tremendously gifted author.
11. Potion_Lady [livejournal] Potion_Lady is one of the very few authors who writes a variety of pairings, genres, and ratings, and gets every one spot on. Her characterisations are always perfect, and the interaction between her characters is lovely. You can clearly see the time and care she puts into every story, and each is a joy to read. She manages to put an original twist on everything she writes, and every sentence serves to pull you further into the story she tells.
12. Rakina [hpfandom][insanejournal] I would like to nominate the author/Rakina for best author as she is a tremendously talented writer.
13. romaine aka romaine24 [the hex files][livejournal] Romaine's unique ability to weave JK Rowlings characters into new and unusual settings is unparallled. Her material is well researched and as emotionally inuitive as I ever read, and her beautiful style and fairy tale like imagination have kept us coming back for more.
14. scifichick774 [granger enchanted][livejournal] scifichick774 is an amazing author whose most notable fics include Repercussions, Compliance Issues and Ball and Chain. Open to new pairings no matter how rare she is a breath is fresh air in a fandom that can sometimes seem recycled and stagnant. She is a dream come true, writing Dramione, going where no author has gone before and making the ship come alive. Her take on Sirius Black is nothing short than stellar and her characters are believable and heart warming. It is easy to become attached to her fics and I hope everyone else does too.
15. SueMonroe [ff.net][silversnitch] Sue is a wonderful author that I feel should do at least one original fiction, however at this time we need to follow all of her work she sees things in the 7 books that most miss and she brings it to life plus I believe that she speaks Snape as a first language.

Best New Author

1. 2_4_joy [livejournal] She just recently got into the HP fandom as a writer, but she's writing really great stuff.
2. Gurliemoviegeek [livejournal] Gurliemoviegeek is one of the most promising new authors I've ever come across. She weaves beautiful tales, stringing words together in ways that leave the reader breathless, drawing them into the worlds she creates. Definitely someone to watch.
3. Machshefa [ff.net][owl] Machshefa's first fic, "In Dreams," marks her as a new and important writer in the fandom. Her work is both gentle and disturbing, her characters fully-realized, complex individuals reaching for connection through the haze of their own confusion. The new magic and profound insights that vitalize her writing are thoughtful and lovely, and will capture your imagination and spirit, and make you wish, "If only more writers were like her."
4. Mia Madwyn [ashwinder][ff.net][the petulant poetess] Miamadwyn's Snape is delicious. He is also entirely canon - unattractive, uncooperative, and totally conflicted. Enter her Hermione, also entirely canon - smart as a whip, loyal, and a bit too sure of her own opinions. She puts the two in an impossible situation and lets them struggle their way out of it. The dialogue is perfect; the lemons are amazing. Care of Magical Creatures (her first fic) is shaping up to be a classic! / Mia has a wonderful way of making the interactions between the characters full of energy. Her writing is really engaging.
5. oldenuf2nobetter [the quidditchpitch] Hailing from The Quidditch Pitch, oldenuf2nobetter started with one exceptional story this last year, and has continued to produce excellent works of fanfiction ever since. An impressive body of work in a very short time.
6. Potteresque_Ire [livejournal]
7. richardgloucester [OWL] richardgloucester posted her first story, A Fresh Start, after the publication of Deathly Hallows. It was an immediate hit, with sharp characterizations, crisp writing, touching emotions, and laugh-out-loud humour. If we're lucky, she will continue to grace us with her fabulous talent for a long, long time.
8. Zeegrindylows [owl][ff.net] Zeegrindylows came into the HP fandom with an epic story that was compelling and complex. Her writing is thoughtful and engrossing and takes you on a journey with the characters. Her newest story promises to be as compelling and thought-provoking as her first, and her one-shots deliver a punch which is as powerful as any longer fic.

Most Prolific Author

1. alaana_fair [livejournal][hexfiles] Not only does alaana_fair give us a constant stream of fic, she also gives us some of the most wonderful reads. From her longer chapter fics, to her drabbles, alaana _fair never disappoints.
2. albe-chan [ff.net] This wonderful author has written 29 stories for the HP fandom since roughly October 2007. Her characters are well developed and in character. Her humor is wicked and her smut is well, fantastic! Most of her stories are one shots, but she does have one mid length that she's just finished and one novel length that she updates fairly regularly. My favorites by her are "Professor", "Girls do it Better" and "Three is NOT a Crowd".
3. Lomonaaeren [ff.net] Lomonaaeren is an excellent author who doesn't just give us daily updates but gives us updates that are quality work. For the past several months she's had not one but two novel length WIPs going interspersed with one-shots. It is a rare thing for a day to go by without a post from Lomonaaeren and, as I said, the work is outstanding. / Since starting writing for the potterverse less than a year ago Lomonaaeren has steadily pumped out more than 20 stories and oneshots. Not only has Lomonaaeren produced a laerge amount of fics, all of them are original, interesting, and amazing ideas, whether they twist common plots or are completly unique.
4. MistressMalfoy [grangerenchanted] Every story she writes is a gem to read! She writes multiple pairings and no matter how strict you are in your ship preferences, you'll love whatever she comes up with no matter how unusual the pairing may seem. I usually read only specific ships, but I find myself reading everything she puts out because she's phenomenal at hooking the reader in at the very beginning. The dialogue flows smoothly and the descriptions are an imagination's fantasy.
5. slashpervert [livejournal][personal site] Can you believe this authors has published a dozen novel length, as well as a bunch of one-shots, in just over a year! She and her co-authors publish a chapter (2,000-4,000 words) a day! And it's exciting, fun, well written and even beta'd!
6. Softly_Sweetly [livejournal] [hpfandom] Softly_sweetly embraces numerous pairings as well as general single-character works, has completed an extensive number of tables on LJ and GJ, regularly posts more than one fic each day, and her writing is excellent.  She does not shy away from odd pairings, kinks, or explicit works, yet is equally adept at spinning a wonderful PG fic.  Her work is varied in length, ranging from drabbles to series.  She also regularly evokes emotion in her writing. / SoftlySweetly writes so many different varieties of fiction and such a vast variety of pairings that there’s something that will appeal to everyone.  From fluff to dark fics, from canon to AU, she does it all.  She participates in a variety of communities regularly, has several works in progress going at a time, and posts something new nearly every day, whether it be a drabble, a 2500 word one-shot, a new chapter to a WiP, or a gift fic for someone’s birthday.
